Kwara Student Found Dismembered in Home of Cleric She Met on Facebook

Tragedy struck in Ilorin, Kwara State, as a final-year student of the Kwara State College of Education, Hafsoh Lawal Yetunde, was found murdered and dismembered after meeting a man she had connected with on Facebook.

The suspect, Abdulrahman Mohad Ballo, a 29-year-old Islamic cleric, has been arrested by the Kwara State Police Command in connection with the gruesome killing.

How It Happened

Yetunde reportedly met Ballo online, and after chatting for some time, she agreed to meet him in person. On February 10, 2025, while attending a naming ceremony, she received a call and left to meet him. That was the last time she was seen alive.

When she failed to return home, her worried family tried calling her, but her phone was switched off. By February 11, 2025, her disappearance was reported at the Oja-Oba Police Station.

Police investigations led them to track her last known contact, which pointed to Ballo’s residence in the Offa Garage area of Ilorin.

Shocking Discovery

Upon searching Ballo’s apartment, officers discovered Yetunde’s dismembered body hidden inside a container. The scene was horrifying—bloodstains covered the floor, and disturbing ritualistic items were found.

Initially, Ballo denied any involvement, but later, he claimed that Yetunde had suffered an asthma attack and died in his house. According to him, he panicked and decided to cut her body into pieces before attempting to dispose of it.

Public Outrage and Calls for Justice

The incident has sparked widespread outrage across Kwara State. The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Sulu-Gambari, condemned the killing, describing it as a “barbaric and alien act” that must not go unpunished.

Security agencies have assured the public that justice will be served as the investigation continues.

A Cautionary Tale

Yetunde’s tragic fate serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of trusting strangers met online. Her story highlights the need for caution, especially when meeting people from social media platforms.

May her soul rest in peace.
