Update: After Soldiers’ Fatalities, Delta State Community Set Ablaze

The Okuama community in Delta State’s Ughelli South Local Government Area, where fifteen soldiers lost their lives, has been completely destroyed.

According to the Bureau Newspaper, the army personnel were ambushed and killed by youths while responding to a distress call during a communal clash between Okuama and Okoloba communities on Thursday, March 14, 2024.

Under the direction of Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding the 6th Division of the Nigerian Army, 14 of the dead soldiers’ bodies were found in the Okuama hamlet early on Saturday, March 16.

It was said that several of the bodies retrieved had been decapitated, and that others had had their guts and hearts severed.

Channel Television reports that there are serious claims that some enraged soldiers may have carried out the deed in retaliation for the deaths of their comrades.

The killers are still being sought after, and soldiers under the command of Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding of the Nigerian Army’s Sixth Division, have made several arrests.

The soldiers who have been policing the creeks are rumored to have taken revenge, therefore residents of the coastal village are supposed to have fled to nearby Ughelli.
