Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has accused Russia of continuing attacks on the country.
In a post on his verified X handle, he noted that the onslaught had led to over 300 attack drones and around 20 missiles.
“In just the first three days of the new year, the Russian army has launched over 300 attack drones and around 20 missiles, including ballistic ones, against Ukrainian cities and villages.
“A large amount was shot down or neutralised by our forces using electronic warfare means.”
Zelenskyy further noted that there has been hits due to the development leading to casualties and injuries.
“However, unfortunately, there have been hits, resulting in casualties and injuries. My condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives.”
“Additionally, daily strikes continue with Russian guided aerial bombs.”
“Such Russian terror, which continues with unrelenting intensity, requires both us and all our partners not to reduce efforts in strengthening our air defense shield and all its systemic components — grom Patriot systems to mobile fire groups.”
“We must consistently replenish our stock of missiles for air defense and continuously enhance the capabilities of mobile fire groups. I am grateful to all our partners who are helping.”
Zelenskyy however vowed that Ukraine will strengthen its air defense system.
“We are preparing for meetings and negotiations next week to further strengthen our air defense. The schedule for this work has already been preliminarily agreed upon.” the statement noted.
Earlier Russian President, Vladimir Putin was quoted as saying he was ready to meet Donald Trump, the incoming United States of America President for discussions regarding the ongoing conflict with Ukraine.
Asked about Trump’s overtures regarding a possible peace deal, Putin said he would welcome a meeting with the incoming Republican.
“I don’t know when I’m going to see him. He isn’t saying anything about it. I haven’t talked to him in more than four years. I am ready for it, of course. Any time,” Putin had said.
“If we ever have a meeting with President-elect Trump, I am sure we’ll have a lot to talk about,” he said, adding that Russia was ready for “negotiations and compromises.”
There continues however to be rising conflict between Ukraine and Russia despite hopes of a peace talk.
