Kuyallo, Birnin-Gwari LGA, Kaduna State – In a brazen attack on Monday, September 9, 2024, bandits invaded the Primary Healthcare Centre in Kuyallo, Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, abducting two nurses and an unspecified number of patients.
According to Musa Alhassan, a leader of the local Vigilante group, the bandits initially targeted the nearby Government Day Secondary School at around 9 am but redirected their attack to the healthcare centre after finding the school empty.
“The bandits came to the school around 9 am, asking about the students, but when they found out that the school was empty, they went to the healthcare centre and started kidnapping people,” Alhassan explained.
He confirmed that the bandits, who appeared to be seeking students, instead took two female nurses and several patients, plunging the community into a state of panic. “The exact number of patients kidnapped is still unknown,” he added.
An eyewitness described the terrifying scene at the healthcare centre: “The bandits came into the healthcare centre, wielding guns and machetes. They started dragging people out of the hospital, and we could not do anything to stop them.”
The incident underscores the ongoing security challenges in Kaduna State, particularly in Birnin-Gwari, which has witnessed a series of bandit attacks in recent times.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Kaduna State Police Command nor state government officials had confirmed the incident. Efforts to reach the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to phone calls or a text message sent to his mobile number.
