Residents of Fadan Ruruma, a community in Kumana Chiefdom, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have fled their homes following a Thursday night attack by bandits, during which 17 people were abducted.
The Community Development Associations’ (CDAs) Forum confirmed the incident, describing it as part of the frequent attacks, kidnappings, and killings that have plagued the area.
In a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Daniel D. Achi, the forum strongly condemned the attack and called on the government to urgently strengthen security measures to protect lives and property.
Escalating Insecurity Forcing Mass Displacement
Achi decried the worsening insecurity in the region, stating that residents are “attacked and kidnapped almost daily without fear.” He added that many people have been forced to abandon their homes and farmlands, leaving behind unharvested crops.
The forum also recalled that last week, one young man was killed and another injured in an attack at Akansa, Rumaya, while several others remain in terrorist captivity.
Call for Military Intervention
To curb the crisis, Achi urged the Kaduna State government and relevant security agencies to establish a military strike force in Kauru and Kumana axis, complementing the existing unit in Damakasuwa, Chawai Chiefdom.
He further called for immediate measures to address cross-border attacks, particularly in Chawai Chiefdom, which shares boundaries with Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The forum appealed to the government to intensify security efforts to safeguard lives and property in the region.
Efforts to reach the Kaduna State Police Command spokesperson, Mansir Hassan, for comments were unsuccessful, as he promised to respond later.
