Taraba Governor’s Sister Reportedly Shot by Police Escort During Gunmen Attack

Wukari, Taraba State

Atsi Kefas, sister to Agbu Kefas, the Governor of Taraba State, was reportedly shot by a police escort during an attack by gunmen on Thursday, according to News360 Nigeria.

The incident occurred along Kente Road in Wukari Local Government Area, when Jumai, the governor’s mother, and Atsi were traveling in the same vehicle.

Details of the Incident

As reported by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, gunmen ambushed the vehicle carrying the family members. In the ensuing chaos, a police officer assigned to protect them allegedly shot Atsi while trying to repel the attackers.

Prompt Rescue and Evacuation

Troops in the vicinity swiftly responded to the scene, rescuing the victims and recovering a vehicle abandoned by the assailants. An air ambulance was deployed to evacuate both Jumai and Atsi from the scene.

Recovered items included an empty magazine and luggage left behind by the passengers in the recovered vehicle.

Current Status

Atsi Kefas was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment. However, as of this report, the condition of the governor’s sister remains undisclosed.

The attack underscores the persistent security challenges in parts of Taraba State. Authorities are expected to launch further investigations into the incident.
