Speed Darlington Released from Detention

The freedom of singer Darlington Achakpo, often known as Speed Darlington, has been restored.

Stan Alieke, his attorney, made the announcement on social media this evening, writing:

We are happy to report that, following two months of unlawful incarceration, our client, Mr. Darlington Achakpo Aka Speed Darlington (Akpi), is now free.

For the record, as his legal team, we will be looking into every possible legal avenue to make sure he receives justice for the unfair treatment he received and for the fundamental human right that the Nigerian Police Force denied him.

In addition to thanking everyone who offered assistance, Mr. Achakpo would especially want to thank my colleagues, Mr. Marshal Abubakar Esq., Barr. Deji Adeyanju, Barr. Hamza Nuh, and Barr. David.

Freedom is the result of struggle.

Since November 2024, Speed has been held by the police on suspicion of violating bail. His colleague Burnaboy petitioned the police, alleging that he defamed his person in a video he published last December that implied the singer received a Grammy award after “bending down” for Diddy. As a result, the police are currently looking into him.
