Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has assured 50 prominent political figures who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) that they will enjoy the same rights and privileges as longstanding party members.
Among the high-profile defectors are former Governor of Kaduna State, Muktar Ramalan Yero; former Senators Shehu Sani and Suleiman Hunkuyi; Alhaji Sani Shaaban, the gubernatorial candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the last election; and Senator Danjuma Laah, who represented Zone 3 in the Senate on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Others include Abubakar Mustapha, former National Organising Secretary of the PDP, and Ambassador Sule Buba, Nigeria’s former envoy to South Korea.
Speaking at a mega rally held at Murtala Square on Saturday, Governor Sani reassured the defectors and party supporters that there is no distinction between those who have just joined the APC and those who have been in the party for a decade.
He urged the new members to inform their supporters that the APC remains open to receiving more defectors, emphasizing that the party’s growing popularity stems from its leadership at both the state and federal levels.
“In the 2027 elections, Nigerians will vote for the APC in all positions, from the presidency to the state level. Our leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will be re-elected, and at the state level, the party will retain its position in the gubernatorial, National Assembly, and State Assembly elections by the grace of God,” Sani stated.
The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to executing developmental projects across Kaduna State, regardless of political affiliations or ethnic and religious backgrounds.
“Politics is different from governance. We will be fair to all, whether they voted for us or not, because that is the oath of office we swore to uphold as leaders,” he declared.
Acknowledging that no leader is infallible, Sani urged citizens to constructively point out any shortcomings in governance, emphasizing the importance of accountability.
He reminded the crowd that leaders will ultimately be held responsible for how they govern the people entrusted to them, both in this world and in the hereafter.
