Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger State has implemented a prohibition on the bulk sale and distribution of food items and agricultural produce from the state to other parts of Nigeria. The announcement came during a press briefing where Governor Bago highlighted the negative impact of bulk sales on local food availability, leading to scarcity and hunger within Niger State.
He directed, “Effective immediately, all bulk purchases and transportation of foodstuffs from our villages by trucks are to be stopped. This ban applies to all our local markets across the state’s local governments. Security agencies have been authorized to seize any trucks found violating this directive and distribute the confiscated food to the local population.”
This measure is introduced as Nigerians grapple with economic difficulties, exacerbated by the declining value of the Naira, which has significantly increased food prices nationwide and intensified the struggle for many.
