Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has attributed the ongoing conflict between Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara to differences over the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
Speaking on the Glitch Africa Studio podcast, The Honest Bunch, Adeyanju highlighted discrepancies in revenue declarations as the root cause of the rift. He alleged that during Wike’s tenure as Rivers State Governor, the IGR was pegged at N11 billion, while Governor Fubara is now reporting N27 billion.
“Wike is fighting Fubara because about a year ago, he was declaring N11 billion as IGR. The same Fubara is declaring N27 billion, and you say they should not fight?” Adeyanju remarked.
The activist lawyer also criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accusing it of partiality towards the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“INEC is a political party, and the current INEC is APC,” Adeyanju said, adding, “What INEC can’t do does not exist; if you give INEC water, they will turn it into wine.”
The alleged fallout between Wike and Fubara has drawn significant public attention, particularly due to their once-close political alliance. Observers continue to speculate on how this conflict may impact the political landscape in Rivers State.
