The Rivers State House of Assembly has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Governor Sim Fubara to present the 2025 budget before the lawmakers.
The directive was given during a plenary session in Port Harcourt on Monday, amid heightened security around the Assembly Quarters.
Security operatives, including personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force, were deployed in large numbers to secure the Assembly Quarters, which served as the venue for the sitting.
Eyewitnesses reported a strong detachment of armed security personnel stationed at strategic locations around the premises, ensuring tight surveillance.
The heavy security presence follows a recent Supreme Court ruling in favor of Speaker Martin Amaewhule and his colleagues, reinstating their authority and allowing them to resume legislative duties after months of a bitter power tussle over control of the Assembly.
