Recovering a Hacked Facebook Account: A Step-by-Step Guide
- Navigate to the compromised account assistance page by visiting https://www.facebook.com/hacked/ on a desktop browser.
- Click the blue button in the center of the page to be directed to the search page.
- Input your email address or phone number in the text field at the center of the page. Use the details you normally employ for Facebook login. If your phone number isn’t linked to your account, use your email address.
- Select the “Search” option below and to the right of the text field to allow Facebook to locate your account.
- Type the most recent password you remember in the “Current or Old Password” text field.
- Click the “Continue” button, found near the bottom of the page.
- Select a valid reason for your account recovery:
- I observed a post, message, or event on my account that I didn’t create.
- Someone else accessed my account without my permission.
- The appropriate option for my situation is not listed here.
- Click “Continue” to proceed to the beginning of the account recovery process. If you choose an option not listed, you’ll be directed to a help page instead.
- Click “Get Started,” located on the lower-right side of the page, to review your account for any recent changes or activities.
- Click “Continue,” situated on the bottom-right side of the page.
- Click “Next” on the blue button at the bottom of the page.
- Check the box next to your name, then click “Next” to confirm your identity. Skip this step if the option isn’t available.
- Review and adjust any information or settings you did not change. Facebook will show recent modifications for your approval or reversal. If prompted to edit your own posts, simply click “Skip” to bypass.
- Finally, click “Go to News Feed” to access your News Feed and fully regain control of your account.
