The People’s Redemption Party (PRP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have unveiled plans to merge in preparation for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections. The announcement was made during a joint press conference held in Abuja, where the chairmen of both parties emphasized their shared commitment to advancing democracy and addressing pressing national issues.
PRP Chairman, Falalu Bello, expressed optimism about the merger, describing it as a significant step toward fostering democratic ideals and tackling critical challenges such as economic mismanagement, corruption, and the erosion of public trust in Nigeria’s electoral processes.
“We invite other political parties that share our vision to join us in this endeavor,” Bello said. “Together, we can build a brighter future for Nigeria.”
He also highlighted the declining integrity of the country’s democratic processes, referencing irregularities in the 2023 general elections, ongoing local government polls, and recent off-cycle elections. Bello called for urgent reforms to uphold the rule of law and restore faith in Nigeria’s electoral system.

Bello lamented Nigeria’s economic trajectory, citing the nation’s alarming poverty rate, food inflation exceeding 39%, and rising unemployment. He stressed the need for structural reforms to attract investments and harness Nigeria’s potential for economic prosperity.

ADC Chairman, Ralph Nwosu, echoed the need for collaboration to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape after 25 years of democracy. He emphasized creating a value-driven political movement with clear ideologies and economic policies that move beyond the status quo.
“We need to establish political parties that stand as legacies for future generations,” Nwosu said. “Our goal is to converge on shared values and create a vision-driven platform for Nigerians from all walks of life.”
