Protesters Storm EFCC HQ, Demand Immediate Arrest Ex-Gov. Yahaya Bello

A group of protesters gathered at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja on Friday, voicing strong demands for the investigation and immediate arrest of Yahaya Bello, the immediate-past Governor of Kogi State. The protest stems from serious allegations of financial misconduct involving N80 billion during Bello’s tenure.

The demonstration was spearheaded by notable figures including Hon. Simon Achuba, a former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, alongside Peter Ocheni and NADECO Okpanachi.

The protesters collectively called for the EFCC to revisit and complete its previous investigation into Bello’s administration. The investigation had initially been stalled due to the constitutional immunity Bello enjoyed while holding the office of governor.

In a formal protest letter submitted to the EFCC, the group articulated their request for a thorough probe into the alleged financial irregularities committed by Yahaya Bello.

They argue that now, with Bello out of office and no longer shielded by immunity, it is crucial for the EFCC to act decisively to ensure accountability and justice. The move reflects growing public insistence on transparency and the fight against corruption in the governance of Nigerian states.
