The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has rescued Promise Eze, a 25-year-old woman, from a suspected armed robber and ritualist in a hotel located in Wuse, Abuja. The suspect remains at large as authorities intensify their manhunt.
Victim Found Bound and Unconscious
FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed in a statement on Sunday that officers responded to a distress call from the hotel staff on January 31, 2025, at around 11:30 AM.
Upon arrival, the police found Eze tied to a chair, with her mouth covered with plaster tape, in an unconscious state. She was rushed to Wuse District Hospital, where she later regained consciousness.
How the Suspect Lured the Victim
Investigations revealed that Eze had checked into the hotel on January 30 with a man who identified himself as Emmanuel Okoro from Lagos State. However, she later disclosed that they had met online, where the suspect used the alias Michael Prince and claimed to be an oil company employee from Delta State.
According to police reports, the suspect allegedly brandished a dagger, tied her hands and legs, taped her mouth shut inside the hotel bathroom, and fled with her two mobile phones. Before escaping, Eze reportedly overheard him speaking to accomplices, stating that he was regrouping before returning to “finish the job.”
Police Intensify Manhunt for the Suspect
The FCT Police Command has launched a full-scale manhunt for the suspect and is urging the public to provide any useful information that could lead to his arrest.
Police Warn Residents Against Online Scams
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, condemned the incident and warned residents, especially young women, to be cautious when meeting people online. He reassured the public of the police’s commitment to safety in the FCT.
