PayPal Suffers Widespread Outage, Thousands Of Users Unable To Access Accounts

PayPal experienced a service outage on Thursday, with over 6,000 users reporting issues accessing their accounts by midday.

Nearly 90% of the complaints, tracked by Down Detector, involved login problems, leading many to fear the platform had been hacked.

The disruption has triggered a wave of frustration across social media, with many users expressing their anger at the prolonged service interruption.

“It seems PayPal is having a complete meltdown, as nobody can login or get through via their call centre,” one user vented on X.

Mail Online reports that issues with PayPal began around 11:00 am GMT, when customers started experiencing problems accessing their accounts.

Meanwhile, within just an hour, over 6,000 reports had been logged from around the world.

On social media, many users expressed frustration, unable to log in to their PayPal accounts via the mobile app or website.

One user on X (formerly Twitter) shared: “I can’t log in to my PayPal account right now. It keeps showing the message, ‘Please check your entries and try again.'”

Some customers feared a cyberattack was behind the outage, with one user asking, “Has PayPal been hacked? No access possible for lots of us…”

Another said, “I thought my PayPal was hacked, but turns out it’s down for everyone.”

A third commenter added, “PayPal outage had me convinced my account had been hacked, and now I need some time for my adrenaline to settle down.”

However, there is no evidence of a cyberattack, and PayPal has yet to comment on the cause of the issue.
