Tokulo, Bwari Area Council, FCT – Residents of Tokulo community in the Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), were thrown into a state of panic following the discovery of 12 bodies, believed to be those of suspected bandits, early on Tuesday morning.
The grim discovery was confirmed by Jerry Alkali, the councillor representing Igu Ward in the area, who noted that the corpses were still present as of yesterday (Tuesday). Despite the involvement of the authorities, no official explanation has yet been given for the presence of the bodies.
A local resident, speaking on the condition of anonymity, mentioned that none of the deceased were from the community, hinting that the individuals may have been hired or brought in before being shot by security personnel.
Tokulo, which is the hometown of the current chairman of Bwari Area Council, has been plagued by multiple attacks from bandits, leading to the deaths of both local residents and security officers. This latest discovery has intensified fears within the community, as they grapple with the implications of such violence.
In a similar incident last month, five bodies, also believed to be those of bandits, were found in the nearby Kawu community, heightening concerns over the rising insecurity in the area.
An official from the FCT Special Anti-kidnapping Unit confirmed the discovery but refrained from disclosing further details about the circumstances leading to the deaths. Efforts to contact SP Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, for an official statement were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
The incident underscores the ongoing security challenges faced by communities in the Bwari Area Council, with residents calling for more robust action from law enforcement agencies.
