Lokoja, Kogi State – April 11, 2025 – In a landmark move to resolve a land dispute that has lingered for nearly five decades, Governor Alhaji Usman Ododo of Kogi State today convened a high-level peace meeting between the Iyamoye and Ekinrin-Adde communities of Ijumu Local Government Area.
The dispute, which dates back to 1976 and was decided by the Supreme Court in 1996, has stood as a major obstacle to development in the region. Governor Ododo’s intervention marks a significant step towards lasting reconciliation, potentially clearing the path for the establishment of the Federal University of Entrepreneurship and Business Management in Ijumu land—a key project of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration.
The peace meeting, held at the Governor’s Office in Lokoja, was facilitated by the Executive Chairman of Ijumu Local Government, Alhaji Haruna Ibrahim (popularly known as DSTV), and attended by traditional rulers, community leaders, and top government officials.
In his address, Governor Ododo expressed his commitment to reviewing the grey areas surrounding the Supreme Court judgement and promised to convene another round of peace talks with all stakeholders to reach a sustainable resolution. He called on both communities to embrace peace for the sake of future development.
“We must work together to lay a solid foundation for peace and prosperity in Ijumu. The establishment of this university is not just a federal project; it is a symbol of hope and progress for our people,” the Governor said.
The governor’s inclusive and conciliatory approach was widely commended by stakeholders, as both communities were given a platform to express their grievances and chart a new course towards mutual understanding.
The proposed university is expected to bring transformative economic, educational, and social development to the area. Governor Ododo acknowledged the tireless efforts made to attract the institution, noting that Ijumu land is blessed with both natural and human resources.
Meanwhile, the Iyamoye Development Union (IDU) has expressed deep appreciation to Governor Ododo for his humility, leadership, and peace-driven vision. In a statement signed by its National Secretary General, Olorunmaiye Joel, the union thanked the Governor for his commitment to peaceful resolution, the facilitation of a modern primary healthcare centre, and the introduction of free medical care in Iyamoye.
The union also extended gratitude to Rt. Hon. James Abiodun Faleke for his instrumental role in facilitating the federal university, and commended Alhaji Haruna Ibrahim for initiating the peace process. The IDU reaffirmed its commitment to supporting all efforts toward actualizing the university project and sustaining peace in the region.
