Security operatives in Ondo State have apprehended a notorious kidnapper, Terry Tinate Augustus, popularly known as “Black,” in Ilaje Local Government Area. Augustus, who claims to be a pastor from the Ajapa community in Ese Odo LGA, was arrested on December 8, 2024, in a joint operation by the Amotekun Corps and the office of the Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor on Pipeline Surveillance and Waterways Security, Engr. Alore Omosuyi.

Details of the Operation

The arrest followed critical intelligence provided by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police Special Squad, linking Augustus to a series of violent kidnappings, including a high-profile abduction in Lagos.

A statement from the Office of the SA to the Governor on December 9 confirmed the operation’s success:

“The joint effort between Engineer Alore Omosuyi and the Amotekun Corps in Ilaje led to the capture of Terry Tinate Augustus, aka ‘Black,’ a key figure in a violent kidnapping syndicate.”

The operation was initiated after the arrest of two gang members, Promise Mafimisebi and Monday Ikuesan, in Lagos. During interrogation, Mafimisebi disclosed that the gang had extorted a $52,000 ransom in their recent kidnapping of Isa Ososa in Lagos. He identified Augustus as a core member of the syndicate.

Modus Operandi of the Syndicate

The gang primarily targeted wealthy individuals in urban areas, employing stolen vehicles and swift abduction tactics. They were known for demanding exorbitant ransoms and carrying out their operations with precision.

Commendation for Security Agencies

The successful operation highlighted the strategic collaboration between Engr. Omosuyi’s office and the Amotekun Corps. Omosuyi was lauded for his leadership and expertise in security surveillance, which played a pivotal role in the swift apprehension of the suspect.

The arrest marks a significant step in dismantling a dangerous kidnapping network and ensuring the safety of residents in Ondo State and beyond.
