Abuja, April 8, 2025 — The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA), Engr. Chuwuemeka Woke, has restated the agency’s firm commitment to mitigating oil spill incidents across Nigeria. He made this known during a high-level courtesy visit by the leadership of Renaissance Energy Group to NOSDRA’s headquarters in Abuja.
Engr. Woke emphasized that oil spill prevention and rapid response remain top priorities for NOSDRA due to their far-reaching environmental and socio-economic impacts. He stressed the importance of collaboration between regulatory bodies and energy firms to ensure best practices in safety protocols and environmental stewardship.
“We welcome Renaissance Energy’s dedication to the Nigerian energy landscape,” Engr. Woke stated. “Together, we can build a safer and more sustainable environment by strictly adhering to operational protocols that preempt spills and safeguard our communities and ecosystems.”
He lauded Renaissance Energy for making NOSDRA their first port of call since acquiring Shell’s assets in Nigeria, describing the visit as a vital step toward building a constructive and long-term partnership. Engr. Woke also pledged NOSDRA’s full support in helping Renaissance Energy achieve operational excellence.
Tony Attah, Team Lead of Renaissance Energy Group, expressed gratitude for the warm reception, noting the significance of engaging with NOSDRA as the agency plays a crucial role in Nigeria’s energy regulation.
