Northern Politicians’ Visit To Buhari Is Plot To Unseat Tinubu In 2027 – Shehu Sani

Abuja, Nigeria – June 24, 2024:

Former Senator Shehu Sani has raised alarm over recent visits by prominent northern politicians to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State, suggesting a clandestine plot to undermine President Bola Tinubu’s administration by 2027.

The visits, which included former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, were ostensibly for Eid celebrations but, according to Sani, conceal a deeper political agenda. Sani, known for his activism, believes these gatherings aim to resurrect Buhari’s political influence and rally northern support against Tinubu, who assumed office after winning the 2023 presidential election.

In a Facebook post today, Sani criticized the motives behind the visits, accusing the northern elite of leveraging Buhari’s popularity to manipulate public sentiment for their own political gains. He warned that such maneuvers risk exacerbating regional tensions and undermining democratic processes.

“The recent Eid visits to Daura may seem innocuous on the surface, but they mask a strategic effort to consolidate northern political power against President Tinubu in 2027,” Sani wrote. “This project, fueled by nostalgia for Buhari’s leadership, is destined for failure.”

Sani urged northern Nigerians to reject these political machinations, emphasizing that the architects offer little to advance national development. He highlighted Buhari’s presidency, asserting that despite promises, it exacerbated poverty and insecurity in the North.

“This obsession with power at the expense of genuine governance threatens national unity and stability,” Sani cautioned. “Southern Nigerians did not plot against Buhari during his tenure; now, the north must resist divisive tactics aimed at derailing democratic progress.”

The former senator’s remarks underscore growing apprehension among Nigerians over political maneuvers ahead of the 2027 elections. As tensions rise, observers warn against tactics that could deepen divisions and jeopardize Nigeria’s democratic journey.
