Kaduna, Kaduna – Nigerian troops recorded amazing victory against banditry, troops of Operation Whirl Punch have killed 36 bandits, including the notorious leader Buhari Alhaji Halidu, known as “Buharin Yadi.” This operation marks the end of one of the most feared bandit leaders terrorizing Northern Nigeria for years.

The Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, announced the successful operation on Thursday in Kaduna. According to Aruwan, Buharin Yadi was infamous for his connections with other deadly terrorist groups in the North-East and North-West regions of Nigeria.

Terror in Multiple States

Buharin Yadi and his gang had been a scourge on citizens across several areas, including Kidandan/Galadimawa in Giwa Local Government Area (LGA) and Sabon Birni/Kerawa in Igabi LGA of Kaduna State. Their reign of terror extended to Sabuwa LGA in Katsina State, as well as parts of Niger and Zamfara states.

Details of the Operation

Aruwan detailed that the bandit kingpin was neutralized during a fierce battle in the Idasu forest, situated between Giwa LGA of Kaduna State and Sabuwa LGA of Katsina State. The operation, coordinated by Maj. Gen. M.L.D. Saraso, General Officer Commanding of One Division Nigerian Army, was initiated following intelligence reports about terrorist movements from the Samunaka and Saulawa areas of Katsina State.

The troops, upon advancing to Samunaka, found evidence of recent criminal activity, including destroyed settlements and killed cattle. They engaged the bandits in a ferocious battle at Hayin Almajiri, resulting in the elimination of at least 36 bandits.

Impact and Community Response

The elimination of Buharin Yadi, also known as Buhari Janar, brings an end to his involvement in large-scale cattle rustling, arms trading, and drug trafficking. His gang had been responsible for the pillaging of communities, mass kidnappings, and the slaughter of thousands in Kaduna and neighboring states. This breakthrough concludes a five-year manhunt by security forces.

The news of Buharin Yadi’s death sparked widespread jubilation among residents of the Kaduna-Katsina border communities. Governor Uba Sani praised the bravery and efficiency of the troops involved, specifically commending Maj. Gen. Saraso for his exceptional leadership.

Public Advisory

Aruwan advised the public to be vigilant and report any individuals with suspicious injuries to security agencies. He emphasized that the Kaduna State Security Operations Room is available 24/7 to receive such reports via the phone lines 09034000060 and 08170189999.

Continued Operations

Special operations against bandits continue in the region, and citizens are encouraged to provide supportive information to security forces and the government. This victory is a significant step towards restoring peace and security in the affected areas.
