Nigerians Blast Reno Omokri: “El-Rufai Defended Tinubu While You Called Him a Drug Lord”

Nigerians Slam Reno Omokri Over Comments on El-Rufai

Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has faced backlash from Nigerians on social media following his criticism of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai. Omokri had accused El-Rufai of being disloyal to President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), sparking widespread reactions.

Omokri’s comments come after reports surfaced of alleged discord between El-Rufai and Tinubu’s administration. The former Kaduna governor had been a vocal supporter of Tinubu during the 2023 presidential elections, but some suggest his recent actions reflect growing frustration with the current government.

In a series of tweets, Nigerians defended El-Rufai, highlighting his contributions to the APC and Tinubu’s campaign while criticizing Omokri for what they described as hypocrisy and opportunism.

Social Media Reactions:

  1. @IU Wakilii:
    “Losing out on being a minister should not make you so demented that you begin to attack a government you once begged to be a part of.”
  2. @yayuzopanda:
    “While El-Rufai was doing all these for Tinubu & APC, Reno Omokri & his likes were heating up the polity with nefarious & mischievous narratives to demarket Tinubu & hurt his chances at the polls. Guess who their darling is now & who they consider a foe? Bloody hypocrites.”
  3. @Mazimum:
    “Reno Omokri condemning El-Rufai is peak irony. Reno fought tooth and nail to stop Tinubu from becoming president but suddenly switched sides when Tinubu won. Meanwhile, El-Rufai, who poured everything into Tinubu’s campaign, has every right to feel betrayed. Reno, who had no stake in Tinubu’s success, now wants to lecture El-Rufai on loyalty? Reno is just a political opportunist chasing relevance, while El-Rufai is dealing with the consequences of his investments. Know your place, Reno!”
  4. @yemoskipee:
    “Reno!!! You were blinded by your hatred for Buhari that time that you did not know what El-Rufai did fully. Now you are just jumping here and there in the name of hustling. Ojelo fi ara bale.”
  5. @nain_nadabo:
    “Reno, your hypocrisy reeks. One minute, you discredit Tinubu at Chatham House; the next, you pose for photos with him in Aso Rock. Now you attack Malam El-Rufai for demanding balanced resource allocation? Maybe reflect on your own inconsistencies before dragging others.”

El-Rufai’s supporters further emphasized his role in challenging unpopular policies of the Buhari administration and his unflinching loyalty to the APC.

@Lanreburger noted:
“It would be better for El-Rufai not to respond to Reno. This is akin to the advice Reno gave to Atiku Abubakar suggesting that he should not lower himself to Wike’s level.”

Some critics, however, held El-Rufai partly accountable for the current state of the nation.

@Nackson147 remarked:
“Overseeing the fraud and everything that transpired during the 2023 presidential election, I can’t imagine APC criticizing @elrufai today. I didn’t see it coming. Even Reno and Bayo? Wow!! Anyways, I blamed El-Rufai for the role he played in bringing this calamity upon Nigeria.”

Despite the criticism, El-Rufai has remained silent, choosing not to respond to the accusations. His defenders maintain that he is being unfairly targeted, while others argue that Omokri’s frequent shifts in allegiance undermine his credibility.

The heated exchanges underscore the ongoing divisions within Nigeria’s political landscape, as parties and personalities continue to realign ahead of the 2027 elections.
