BUNI YADI, Yobe State — Troops of Sector 2, Operation Hadin Kai, in collaboration with local vigilantes, successfully repelled an attempted attack by Boko Haram terrorists on the Sabon Fegi community in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

According to intelligence sources cited by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the attack, which unfolded around 11 a.m., led to a fierce gun battle, leaving four terrorists dead. Among those neutralized was a notorious Boko Haram commander, Abu Shekau.

A Major Blow to Boko Haram

Abu Shekau, a significant figure within the terrorist group and an ardent loyalist of its late leader Abubakar Shekau, was among the casualties. He had earned a reputation for his staunch allegiance to the group’s former brutal leader, even naming his son after Abubakar Shekau as a mark of reverence.

During the confrontation, the troops seized several weapons from the insurgents and leveraged superior firepower to force the remaining attackers to flee, ensuring the safety of the community.

Securing Victory

This operation is a testament to the increasing effectiveness of collaborative efforts between the military and local vigilante groups in combating the insurgency in Nigeria’s northeast. The successful repulsion of this attack bolsters ongoing efforts to stabilize the region and restore normalcy to affected communities.

The Nigerian military continues to strengthen its counter-insurgency strategies, aiming for decisive victories against extremist groups threatening peace and security in the country.
