Nigerian Forces Kill Lakurawa Kingpin Maigemu, Kebbi Residents Rejoice

Residents Celebrate as Security Forces Eliminate Notorious Bandit Kingpin in Kebbi

Residents of Kuncin Baba in Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State have expressed relief and joy following the killing of a notorious Lakurawa gang leader, Maigemu.

Maigemu was neutralized on Thursday in a joint operation involving security forces and local vigilantes, marking a significant breakthrough in the fight against banditry in the state.

Confirming the development in a statement on Friday, the Director of Security at the Cabinet Office in Birnin Kebbi, AbdulRahman Zagga, said the operation was based on intelligence gathering.

“He was taken down by a combined team of security agents and local vigilantes after an intense gun battle,” Zagga stated.

The operation came just a week after Governor Nasir Idris visited Bagiza and Rausa Kade communities to condole with residents over the killing of six people by suspected Lakurawa cattle rustlers. Zagga praised the governor for his steadfast support of security agencies and urged residents to stay vigilant and cooperate with security operatives.

Speaking on the incident, the spokesperson of the Kebbi State Police Command, Nafiu Abubakar, said the success was a result of close collaboration between the police and other security agencies. He disclosed that two firearms and a mobile phone were recovered from the slain bandit.

Ahmed Idris, Chief Press Secretary to the governor, described the development as part of the administration’s broader efforts to enhance security across the state.

A resident of Kuncin Baba, who spoke anonymously, welcomed the news, saying it would bring much-needed peace to the area.
