Nigeria Police Force Makes Major Strides in Crime Fighting: Recoveries and Arrests in Kano, Kaduna, and Kebbi
In its ongoing commitment to combat crime across Nigeria, the Nigeria Police Force has recorded significant successes in recent operations, ranging from the recovery of counterfeit currencies to the arrest of gunrunners and the rescue of kidnapping victims.
Counterfeit Currency Seized in Kano
On December 8, 2024, the Police in Kano made a major breakthrough in the fight against economic crimes by recovering a staggering sum of N129,542,823,000 in counterfeit currencies. Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives in Gwale, Kano State, apprehended Nura Ibrahim and discovered counterfeit notes, including 3,366,000 US dollars, 51,970 CFA francs, and 1,443,000 Naira. Further investigation led to the arrest of Ibrahim’s accomplices, Muhammed Muntari and Usman Abdullahi, and the recovery of more counterfeit currencies and five different ATM cards.
Crackdown on Gunrunning in Kaduna
On December 9, 2024, the Nigeria Police Force intensified its efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal firearms with the arrest of three suspected gunrunners along the Kaduna-Kano expressway in Kaduna State. The suspects—Buhari Suleiman, Jamil Yakubu, and Aliyu Abdullahi—were caught after police operatives noticed their suspicious behavior. A search yielded 216 rounds of 9mm live ammunition and 1 round of AK-47 ammunition, marking another significant victory in the battle against illegal arms trafficking.
Rescue of Kidnapped Victims in Kebbi
In a separate operation on December 8, 2024, police operatives in Kebbi State rescued 36 victims of kidnapping along the Mairairai/Bena Road in Danko/Wasagu LGA. The victims, who were returning from their farms, were freed by the police, who immediately engaged with the local community to ensure continued safety and security. The Police further assured the residents of their ongoing efforts to prevent such crimes.
