Nigeria News Today: Kidnappers Abduct Two in Kogi, Demand ₦60m Ransom

By Amanabo Ocholi | The Bureau News

Suspected kidnappers have abducted two people between Akpanya and Magajia villages along the Lokoja–Abuja highway in Kogi Local Government Area of Kogi State. The incident occurred last Thursday night, throwing residents into panic.

How the Attack Happened

Witnesses said the hoodlums stormed the house of a Gbagi businessman in Akpanya around 8 p.m., firing shots into the air to disperse villagers. The man, who is involved in the cassava trade, was initially dragged away along with a heavily pregnant woman. However, he managed to escape by slipping into a gutter, while the abductors abandoned the woman due to her condition.

Frustrated, the kidnappers seized two other men they encountered while fleeing the community. One of them was identified as Jimoh Adewale, an employee of a cassava processing company in Jamata, Koton-Karfi.

Ransom Demand

Community sources revealed that the abductors have contacted families of the victims, demanding over ₦60 million for their release. “The kidnappers are insisting on huge payments before freeing the men,” said Idris, a resident of Akpanya.

Police Response

Attempts to reach the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, for confirmation were unsuccessful as calls and text messages were not returned at the time of reporting.
