President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Shamsedeen Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation.
According to a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Ogunjimi’s appointment takes effect from March 7, 2025, the same day the incumbent, Oluwatoyin Madehin, is scheduled to retire.
Selection Process and Qualifications
Ogunjimi, 57, was first named as Madehin’s successor in December 2024, following a rigorous and merit-based selection process conducted by a committee that assessed Directors of Accounts in the Federal Civil Service.
The process involved three stages:
- A written assessment
- An ICT proficiency test
- An oral interview
According to Onanuga, this underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to transparency, excellence, and competence in public service appointments.
Ogunjimi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (1990) and a Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN).

President Tinubu congratulated Ogunjimi on his appointment and urged him to carry out his duties with integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to national service.
Ogunjimi’s appointment is expected to strengthen financial management and accountability in the country’s public sector.
