New Petrol Price: NNPCL Updates on Dangote Refinery Petrol Price and Purchase

NNPCL in Negotiations with Dangote Refinery for Petrol Supply Ahead of September 15

Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has confirmed that it is in active negotiations with Dangote Refinery for the purchase of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) ahead of the expected rollout on Sunday, September 15, 2024.

NNPCL spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, disclosed this in an exclusive interview with The Bureau Newspaper on Thursday, responding to earlier claims made by Devakumar Edwin, Vice President of Dangote Industries Limited, who alleged that local marketers were boycotting Dangote Refinery’s petrol despite its competitive pricing.

Soneye, however, refuted the notion that local marketers would boycott a more affordable product. He clarified that NNPCL is currently in the process of finalizing petrol pricing with Dangote Refinery, emphasizing that they were awaiting the refinery’s official commencement of PMS supply on the scheduled date.

“I don’t believe local marketers will boycott PMS with lower prices; that seems unlikely. We are currently negotiating prices with Dangote Refinery, and we’ve been informed that the product will be available from September 15, so we’re preparing for that,” Soneye stated.

This follows a recent confirmation from Adedapo Segun, NNPCL’s Executive Vice President of Downstream, that NNPCL will indeed lift petrol from Dangote Refinery.

Earlier this month, the President of Dangote Group officially announced the long-awaited launch of PMS production from the refinery, marking a significant milestone for Nigeria’s domestic fuel supply chain.
