Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, 75, is scheduled to undergo prostate removal surgery on Sunday following a diagnosis of a urinary tract infection (UTI), his office confirmed in a statement.
Diagnosis and Planned Surgery
Netanyahu was diagnosed with a UTI caused by benign prostate enlargement during a medical examination at Hadassah Hospital on Wednesday.
“As a result, the prime minister will undergo prostate removal surgery,” the statement said.
Netanyahu’s Health History
The surgery marks Netanyahu’s second major medical procedure this year. In March, he underwent hernia surgery, and in July 2023, doctors implanted a pacemaker following a health scare.
Ongoing Legal and Political Challenges
Netanyahu’s health issues come as he continues to face legal battles and political controversies. Earlier this month, the prime minister testified in his ongoing corruption trial, where he is accused of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust.
Additionally, Israel’s attorney general recently ordered an investigation into Netanyahu’s wife, Sara Netanyahu, for alleged harassment of political opponents and a witness involved in the corruption case.
