The Senator representing Kogi West, Sunday Karimi, has stated that the ongoing controversy involving Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central has justified former Governor Yahaya Bello’s stance against her.
Speaking to journalists in Lokoja on Sunday, Karimi asserted that recent developments confirm that Bello was not to blame for the past disputes between him and Akpoti-Uduaghan before the National Assembly elections.
His comments come in reaction to the ongoing face-off between Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, which has sparked public debate.
“Former Governor Yahaya Bello must have seen it coming,” Karimi remarked.
He disclosed that other Kogi lawmakers, including himself, made efforts to ensure that the state’s reputation was not tarnished but were rebuffed.
“All our admonition to her fell on deaf ears. One can therefore come to terms with the fact that former Gov Yahaya Bello saw it coming,” he added.
Karimi further accused Akpoti-Uduaghan of embarrassing not only Kogi State but also the entire country with her actions in the Senate.
“Sen. Natasha has not only rubbished the perception of the state; from the events happening now in Nigeria, she has also embarrassed the entire country,” he lamented.
He described the situation in the Senate as unfortunate, blaming Akpoti-Uduaghan for ignoring advice from her colleagues.
The controversy in the National Assembly erupted following allegations of sexual harassment leveled against Senate President Akpabio by Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The Kogi Central senator was later suspended for failing to adhere to Senate rules.
