A 24-year-old man named Peter Adebayo has been charged by the Ondo State Police with killing his friend Lekan Raji with a cooking gas cylinder after ingesting hard substances known as colorado.
The defendant committed the offense on February 23, 2024, at Ireakari Street in Akure, according to the police prosecutor, Inspector Taiwo Oniyere, who testified before the Akure Magistrate court. It was said that Adebayo struck Lekan in the head with the cylinder when he questioned his actions.
When the deceased returned home that day, he was not pleased with the defendant’s bad behavior. He thereby issued a challenge. However, the defendant struck the deceased with the cylinder while under the influence of “Colorado.” He therefore fell and perished. The prosecutor for the police said
The allegation states that the offense violates Ondo State 2006’s Criminal Code Law, Cap 37 Vol. 1, Sections 316 and 319.
The prosecutor asked the court to remand the defendant at the Olokuta Correctional Centre in Akure while they await legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) as the defendant did not enter a plea.
The case was postponed until March 19, 2024 by Presiding Magistrate T. O. Olusola-Olujobi, who also ordered the defendant’s remand at the Olokota Correctional Center.
