Warri, Delta State – A man identified as Ogoro Miffy has publicly accused the Delta State Police Command of converting his stolen car into a police patrol vehicle, sparking public outrage and renewed calls for police accountability.
In a viral video circulating on social media, Miffy narrated how his car was stolen in 2015 while attending a church programme. He promptly reported the incident at the Ekpan Division Police Station, where he claims he was advised to print and distribute notices about the stolen vehicle.
“Them say make I go print paper for stolen vehicle. I even distribute am for them,” Miffy recounted in Pidgin English, expressing his dismay.
Two years later, in 2017, Miffy says he was stunned to discover that the same vehicle was being used by officers at the Ekpan Division, now branded with official police markings.
“I con discover my motor with the police in Ekpan Division. They converted my vehicle to their own use,” he said while showing a photograph of the vehicle.
According to Miffy, he took the matter to court, and on July 19, 2018, a High Court reportedly ruled in his favour, awarding him N10 million in damages. However, he claims the police appealed the judgment and have yet to comply with the ruling.
“Is it their right to use my motor? Because I don’t have a helper, they are oppressing me. I was using the motor to manage my life, but now things are tough. Come to my rescue,” he pleaded emotionally in the video.
Police Respond
In reaction to the viral claims, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, posted a response via his official handle. He noted that the alleged incident was a long time ago and that preliminary checks at the Ekpan Police Division did not show the said vehicle.
“2015–2017 is a long time ago. The said vehicle is not in Ekpan Police Station from my findings,” Edafe said.
He also provided a contact line for Miffy to follow up and assist with further investigations into the matter.
As public attention continues to grow around the case, many Nigerians online are calling for an independent probe and swift justice, accusing the police of abusing their power and victimising vulnerable citizens.
