Libya to Challenge CAF’s Forfeiture Ruling in Nigeria Match Dispute

In response to the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) recent ruling on the forfeited Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Nigeria, the Libya Football Federation (LFF) is set to file an appeal. Sources from Brila.net report that Libya is contesting the decision, which awarded Nigeria a 3-0 victory after logistical issues led to the match’s cancellation.

The LFF’s appeal will reportedly be submitted within the three-day allowable window, with legal representation handling the matter discreetly to avoid media coverage. This decision follows CAF’s findings, which determined that Libya had breached various regulations surrounding the October 15 match. During this time, Nigeria’s Super Eagles faced severe logistical obstacles, including an unplanned diversion to Al-Abraq International Airport, where the team was stranded without basic amenities for over 18 hours.

The LFF hopes to challenge the ruling and potentially reverse the decision, which currently leaves them at the bottom of Group D. While details of their appeal approach remain confidential, the case’s outcome could significantly impact both Libya’s and Nigeria’s standing in the AFCON qualifiers. With just one point needed for Nigeria to secure their place in the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, CAF’s response to the appeal will be closely monitored.
