During a recent solidarity rally held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, which saw participation from women’s groups across all 23 local government areas, Evans Bipi, a former Chief Whip of the Rivers State House of Assembly, made significant allegations regarding the manipulation of the 2023 general election results.
He claimed that the actual victors of the election were the candidates of the Labour Party (LP), not those backed by the then-governor, Nyesom Wike.
The rally, which aimed to show support for the state governor, was marked by Bipi’s response to Wike’s recent assertions. Wike, who now serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), had previously expressed confidence in his and his allies’ dominance in future elections, suggesting that Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s tenure would be short-lived.
Bipi, attending the rally on behalf of Governor Fubara, contested Wike’s claims of victory in the 2023 elections.
He argued that the widespread support from the women present at the rally was indicative of Governor Fubara’s strong position, capable of securing a decisive win in any forthcoming electoral challenge.
He further disputed the legitimacy of Wike and his allies’ electoral success, attributing their claimed victories to manipulation and underscoring the Labour Party’s rightful wins across the state.
Bipi’s remarks reflect the ongoing political tensions within Rivers State, highlighting the contestations and disputes that continue to shape its political landscape.
