Lagos To Partially Close Third Mainland Bridge, Others For Lagos Women Run

In a statement on Friday by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the government also rolled out traffic a diversion plan to enable motorists commute easily during the event.

The Lagos State Government has announced that all junctions and intersections from Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) to Mobolaji Johnson Arena will be closed to traffic on Saturday, November 9, 2024 for the annual Lagos Women Run..

According to the statement, Third Mainland Bridge from Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue will be partially closed, as the government advised motorists to go through Bonny Camp to connect Onikan Underpass inwards Marina Exit to access Force Road to link Outer Marina and Third Mainland Bridge to reach their destinations within the period.

The statement noted: “During the event, the race route starting from Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) inward to Water Board, Old NITEL, Outer Marina, Bonny Camp Bridge, Ahmadu Bello Way, Akin Adesola Street, Falomo Bridge, Falomo Roundabout, Awolowo Road, and Onikan Roundabout to Mobolaji Johnson will be partially closed.

“Consequently, the following alternative routes have been mapped to enable easy commuting;

“Motorists heading to Third Mainland Bridge from Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue are advised to go through Bonny Camp to connect Onikan Underpass inwards Marina Exit to access Force Road to link Outer Marina and Third Mainland Bridge to reach their destinations.

“Motorists heading to Ikoyi Road from Apongbon are to use Odunlami Street to connect Igbosere Road and proceed to Moloney Street to access Ikoyi Road to continue their journeys. There will be minimal impact on traffic flow within these routes.”

To prevent road users from accessing to the main race corridor and minimize inconveniences for motorists and athletes, Mr Osiyemi, stated “that all junctions and intersections from Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) to destination Mobolaji Johnson Arena will be blocked with barriers and manned by LASTMA, NPF, FRSC, LSNC officials”. 

He advised motorists to be patient as the partial road closure is part of the traffic management plans for the race event highlighted.
