Lagos Speaker Mojisola Meranda May Resign as Political Crisis Deepens

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, may resign today amid growing political tension, sources have revealed.

This development comes as operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) allegedly stormed her office, sealing it off in the early hours of Monday. Armed security personnel have reportedly taken over the Assembly premises in Alausa, Ikeja, heightening concerns over the leadership crisis.

The turmoil follows the controversial impeachment of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, which has continued to generate division among lawmakers. Obasa has rejected his removal, insisting that due process was not followed.

There are strong indications that Obasa may be reinstated as Speaker following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu, who is said to be working behind the scenes to resolve the impasse.

As the situation unfolds, all eyes remain on the Lagos State Assembly for the next decisive move in the leadership tussle.
