Lagos Housemaid Steals $51,000 Just 3 Days After Starting Job

Law enforcement officials from the Zone 2 Command Headquarters located in Onikan, Lagos, have apprehended Blessing Effiong, an employee working in a domestic capacity, and her spouse, Bassey Effiong, on charges of pilfering $51,000 from their employer’s home in the Lekki district of Lagos.

The command’s reports indicate that Blessing, who secured her position through a referral from an agent known as Anthony, started her role as a household staff member on December 23, 2023. Astonishingly, merely three days after her employment began, she vanished with $51,000 in collaboration with her husband, making their way to Cross River State.

A statement released by the zonal police spokesperson, SP Ayuba Umma, revealed that following an exhaustive investigation, the couple was captured on January 31, 2024.

Initially, Blessing denied the full scope of the crime but later acknowledged taking $30,000 and confessed to handing over $20,000 of the pilfered amount to her spouse, Bassey Effiong.

In his admission, Bassey Effiong confirmed accepting the illicit funds, part of which he allocated towards settling his deceased mother’s healthcare expenses, acquiring a Tipper Truck, Two Motorcycles, and finalizing a building project in Cross River State.
