The Kogi State government has announced federal approval for constructing an international airport in Zariagi, aimed at bolstering economic growth and regional connectivity. According to Kingsley Fanwo, the commissioner for information and communication, the approval from the federal ministry of aviation and aerospace development was confirmed in a letter dated October 9, 2024.
Fanwo highlighted Governor Usman Ododo’s commitment to expediting the project, which will serve ten neighboring states and alleviate traffic congestion on the Lokoja-Abuja route.
“The strategic location of Kogi offers immense potential as an aviation hub, and this project will showcase the state’s economic and cultural strengths on a global stage,” he stated.
With both passenger and cargo capabilities, the airport is expected to create jobs, boost Kogi’s economy, and enhance the region’s trade opportunities. Fanwo expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the aviation ministry for supporting this transformative development.
