The Kogi State Government has dismissed reports claiming that teachers in the state are required to pay ₦10,000 before being confirmed as government employees.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Kogi State Senior Secondary Education Board (KGSSEB), through its Board Secretary, Dr. Aisha Mohammed Atojoko, described the allegation as false and a product of mischief makers.
State Government’s Response
Refuting the claims, the board emphasized that Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo’s administration had recruited teachers without demanding a dime and would not impose financial conditions for their confirmation after two years of service.
“If the State Government could recruit teachers without asking for a dime during the process, then confirmation—being their right—should not be linked to any form of payment,” the statement read.
The government further highlighted its commitment to teachers’ welfare, pointing out that Kogi State now pays a minimum wage of ₦72,000, a development that has significantly improved the well-being of teachers in the state.
Political Sabotage Alleged
The KGSSEB Board Chairman, Dr. Habiba Suleiman, has reportedly prioritized the governor’s education policies and reforms, prompting speculation that detractors may be attempting to tarnish the government’s image.
“It is laughable and illogical for anyone afraid of the ongoing repositioning by the KGSSEB Board Chairman to try to bring the state government into disrepute,” the statement added.
Warning Against Fraudsters
The government urged teachers and the public to disregard the malicious claim and assured that confirmation in the civil service is free, provided due process is followed.
Furthermore, security agencies have been instructed to track and arrest anyone falsely claiming to be a representative of the Kogi State Senior Secondary Education Board (KGSSEB) with the intent to defraud unsuspecting individuals.
