Operatives of the Kano State Hisbah Board have arrested a 24-year-old man, Shamsu Yakubu, for allegedly engaging in an obscene act with a she-goat. The incident, which was captured in a viral video on social media, has sparked outrage across the state and among netizens.
Shamsu, a resident of Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area of Kano State, was apprehended on Tuesday after the video surfaced on TikTok. In the footage, Shamsu is seen instructing another person to film him while he allegedly licked the private parts of the goat. He later admitted that the act was intended to attract attention and gain online fame.
Social Media Backlash and Public Outrage
The video, which has gone viral, quickly gained attention for its disturbing content, prompting widespread condemnation from residents of Kano and social media users. Many expressed shock and disgust at the explicit act, with some local community members threatening to take matters into their own hands. A local community leader intervened, reporting the incident to the Hisbah Board, who swiftly responded by taking Shamsu into custody.
When questioned by Hisbah operatives, Shamsu denied actually licking the goat’s private parts. He claimed that he only placed his mouth close to the animal’s genitalia. He further insisted that this was his first time engaging in such behavior and promised not to repeat it. Despite his claims, the Hisbah Board ordered comprehensive psychiatric and drug evaluations to determine his mental and physical state at the time of the incident.
Condemnation from Religious and Community Leaders
Reacting to the incident, the Deputy Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Mujahidden Aminuddeen Abubakar, strongly condemned Shamsu’s actions. He described the behavior as disgraceful and offensive to Islamic teachings and moral standards.
“It is tragic that a Muslim man would subject himself to such a disgraceful act, ignoring all religious and ethical values,” Sheikh Abubakar said. “This individual clearly lacks any proper understanding of Islam. His pursuit of cheap social media fame has led him into disgrace.”

The Kano State Hisbah Board has reiterated its commitment to upholding moral values and warned against any acts that could undermine the cultural and religious fabric of the state. The Board emphasized that such indecent behavior, especially when shared on social media for attention-seeking purposes, will not be tolerated.
This disturbing incident serves as a stark reminder of the growing impact of social media and the lengths some individuals will go to gain fleeting fame. The Hisbah Board’s swift action highlights their role in maintaining public decency and upholding the moral integrity of the community.
