Governor Namadi Commissions Lallashi Borehole-Based Irrigation Scheme to Boost Food Security in Jigawa
Governor Umar Namadi has inaugurated the Lallashi Borehole-Based Irrigation Scheme in Maigatari Local Government Area, marking a significant step toward enhancing food security and modernizing agriculture in Jigawa State.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, the governor emphasized that the project, powered by solar energy and utilizing semi-conduit and drip irrigation techniques, will enable year-round farming while creating economic opportunities for local farmers.
The 10-hectare irrigation scheme, supported by four industrial boreholes, is expected to directly benefit 80 smallholder farmers, increasing crop yields and improving livelihoods.
Governor Namadi reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing its 12-Point Agenda, with a strong focus on expanding irrigation infrastructure, including borehole-based systems and dams. He revealed that similar projects in Birniwa and Kafin Hausa will soon be completed, while the 2025 budget includes additional irrigation initiatives in Gumel, Sule Tankarkar, and Gagarawa.
He further highlighted the project’s role in reducing dependence on seasonal rainfall, boosting agricultural productivity, and increasing farmers’ incomes, aligning with his administration’s broader vision for sustainable development in the state.
