Ukraine President Volodymyrr Zelenskyy has accused his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin of caring only about money and power.
Today marks a somber milestone – 1000 days since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of the war, which has left countless innocent civilians caught in the crossfire.
The UK’s Deputy Ambassador Brown has strongly condemned Russia’s continued attacks on Ukraine’s civilians and critical infrastructure, highlighting the appalling lack of respect for human life.
In a post on his X account on Tuesday, Zelenskyy said, “Today, I addressed the participants of an extraordinary session of the European Parliament marking the 1,000th day of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
“Every ‘today’ is the best moment to push Russia harder.
“It is clear that without certain key factors, Russia will lack real motivation to engage in meaningful negotiations: without fires in its ammunition depots on Russian territory, without disrupted military logistics, without destroyed Russian air bases, without its capabilities to produce missiles and drones being eliminated, and without its assets being confiscated.”
According to him, “Putin does not value people or rules; he values only money and power”.
“These are the things we must take away from him to restore peace,” he said.
“We must do everything to end this war—fairly, justly, and, of course, together. A thousand days of war is a tremendous challenge. Ukraine deserves to make the next year the year of peace.”
Moscow said on Tuesday that Ukraine fired long-range US-made missiles into Russia.
The strike comes after US President Joe Biden administration gave Kyiv approval to use the longer-range weapons against targets inside Russian territory, CNN reports.
Russia said at 3:25 a.m. local time (7:25 p.m. ET), Ukraine fired six ballistic long-range missiles at a facility in Bryansk, confirming that American-made ATACMS missiles were used in the attack.
While Kyiv has not commented on the attack, the strike follows President Biden’s authorization on Sunday for Ukraine to use longer-range missiles within Russia.
The move ended a months-long restriction intended to prevent further escalation of the conflict, while still providing Ukraine with the means to defend itself.
