IDF Launches Massive Airstrikes on Hezbollah Targets in Lebanon Amid Escalating Tensions

Jerusalem, Israel – The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced early Monday that it had launched extensive airstrikes targeting Hezbollah positions in Lebanon. The strikes come amid heightened conflict along Israel’s northern border, as the military warned Lebanese civilians to evacuate homes being used by the Iran-backed militant group for weapon storage.

The IDF stated that it had identified Hezbollah operatives preparing rocket attacks on Israel, prompting the airstrikes. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, following an assessment of the situation, warned that the public would need to remain composed and adhere strictly to safety instructions from the Home Front Command in the coming days.

As of 12:30 a.m., the Israeli Air Force had reportedly hit over 300 Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, with dozens of fighter jets participating in the operation. Strikes were concentrated in the eastern Beqaa Valley, close to the Syrian border, and deeper into Lebanon near the cities of Baalbek and Hermel.

The Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) reported the death of a civilian shepherd and injuries to several others during the airstrikes. The IDF responded by issuing warnings to civilians, urging them to distance themselves from Hezbollah weapons caches. Text messages were sent to residents of southern Lebanon, warning that Hezbollah was placing their lives at risk by using residential areas for military purposes.

“Hezbollah is sacrificing you for its missiles and drones, which it values more than your safety,” said IDF Arabic spokesperson Avichay Adraee in a statement directed at Lebanese civilians.

Hezbollah Escalates Rocket Attacks

The intensified violence comes as Hezbollah escalated its rocket fire into northern Israel, launching 85 rockets on Sunday alone. The attacks are in response to what Hezbollah claims was Israel’s role in a massive explosion last week that targeted communications equipment used by the group, leaving dozens dead and thousands injured.

While Israel has not officially commented on the operation, Hezbollah has continued its near-daily attacks on Israeli military positions and border communities since October 8, citing support for Gaza amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Warnings of More Hezbollah Strikes

IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari shared previously unreleased footage of Hezbollah operatives preparing to launch a cruise missile from within a civilian home in southern Lebanon. The missile, identified as a Russian-made “DR-3” with a range of up to 200 kilometers, was destroyed in an airstrike before it could be launched.

“Hezbollah is putting civilians at risk. For your safety, stay away from these weapons,” Hagari told Lebanese residents.

Hagari added that the military was continuously assessing the situation and would provide updates as the fighting intensifies. He also warned the public to be wary of psychological tactics and misinformation spread by Hezbollah.

Gallant: Home Front Resilience is Key

Defense Minister Gallant emphasized the importance of public calm during this new phase of the conflict. “Our success depends on the proper conduct of the home front. Citizens must enter protected areas in accordance with our instructions. This will save lives,” he said.

Gallant also spoke with U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, briefing him on the threats posed by Hezbollah and discussing ongoing IDF operations aimed at curbing the group’s ability to strike Israeli civilians.

Meanwhile, opposition leader Yair Lapid voiced his support for the IDF’s expanded military operations, urging the military to continue until the residents of northern Israel can safely return to their homes.

The situation remains tense as both sides brace for further escalation in the coming days.
