A National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) member stationed in Adamawa State tragically passed away during the penalty shootouts of the Nigeria vs. South Africa match in the African Cup of Nations on Wednesday.
The incident follows the death of Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, a former House of Representatives member for Delta State’s Ika federal constituency, who also collapsed and died while viewing the same game.
The deceased corps member, named Samuel and hailing from Kaduna State, reportedly lost consciousness just before the decisive penalty that secured Nigeria’s win in the game.
According to a social media post by a witness, “During our celebration of Nigeria’s win over South Africa at our local sports viewing center in Numan, we tragically lost a fellow Nigerian.
“Samuel, a corps member serving here in Numan from Kaduna State, collapsed just before the final, victorious penalty was taken.
He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital in Numan. May he rest in peace,” the post read.
