Professor Usman Yusuf, the ex-Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), expressed his astonishment at the silence from the South Eastern region of Nigeria amidst the deepening economic difficulties the nation faces. Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Saturday, Yusuf highlighted the noticeable absence of agitation from the South East, in contrast to the vocal concerns raised in the South West and Northern regions about the escalating hunger crisis.
Yusuf emphasized the gravity of the situation, particularly in the North, describing the silence there as potentially more significant than public protests. With the approach of Ramadan, he stressed the urgency of the situation, calling on the President to take immediate action to alleviate the suffering. He advocated for the government to purchase and distribute food widely to mitigate the hardship before it escalates further.
