‘I Almost Became Gospel Singer Timileyin Ajayi’s Victim,’ Abuja-Based Lady Shares ‘Narrow Escape Story’

An Abuja-based Nigerian lady has recounted how she narrowly escaped being the victim of the gospel singer, Timileyin Ajayi, who was apprehended on Sunday with a sack containing the severed head of a woman he identified as his girlfriend.

The deceased has been identified as Salome Eleojo Adaidu.

The lady who did not disclose her name or identity in a video obtained by The Bureau Newspaper, said she is in the same Telegram group with Ajayi, where the singer announced that he was organising a karaoke.

She said she indicated interest in participating and Ajayi sent her his address to visit him for rehearsal.

Sharing what she claimed was her WhatsApp chat with Ajayi, the lady said, “I just heard about a tragic incident that happened in Abuja yesterday (indicating she made the video on Monday) where a guy murdered his girlfriend.

“Thank God for my life because maybe I would have been a victim. We belong to the same group on Telegram and he posted that he is doing karaoke or something. That he is a gospel artist.

“I was interested in singing because I sing. I went to his DM (Direct Message box) and I said I will be interested in the karaoke, and he sent me an address and invited me to come over to Orozo.

“Thank God for my life because I told my sister and she kept telling me to go, let us go. He kept calling me. He was calling me every day.

“Here is a screenshot of the chat. The short one I made on WhatsApp. He even sent a message to me on WhatsApp. He told me to come to his place, that he is going to make arrangements for me.

“Thank God for my life. My mind was not just going, and thank God for work. I was really busy with work and I could not go, if not, I would have been a victim of this. He kept calling, asking ‘where are you?’”

According to the WhatsApp chat, she was directed to “Get to Nyanya, then enter Keke to Arab Junction Orozo, then call me when you get to Arab.”

The chat further read, “Karaoke starts from 7pm. Will you be staying till the next day? You can still the next day and go to work from here. You just need to plan.”

The Bureau Newspaper, had reported that the disturbing incident occurred in Orozo, Abuja, where the gospel singer Ajayi was apprehended by churchgoers during a service.

He was found with a sack containing the severed head of a woman he identified as his girlfriend.

According to Umaru Caleb, a church member who shared the incident on Facebook, the suspect was apprehended during a Sunday service.

A fellow congregant reportedly felt compelled to stop the suspect and inspect the contents of a sack he was carrying. Upon investigation, the sack was found to contain the fresh head of the suspect’s girlfriend.

The congregant was horrified to discover the freshly severed head of a young woman, who appeared to have recently braided her hair in a stylish “million braids” fashion.

The church member immediately raised an alarm, prompting other worshippers to rush outside.

The suspect was severely beaten by the mob and subsequently interrogated about the origin of the severed head. According to reports, he revealed that the victim was his girlfriend, who had travelled from a distant location to visit him.

A video obtained by The Bureau Newspaper, shows the suspect, seated on the ground, being questioned by onlookers. He claimed that a heated argument with his girlfriend escalated, resulting in her death.

According to his account, she grabbed a knife during the altercation, and in his attempt to disarm her, he inadvertently stabbed her fatally. He then admitted to dismembering her body to facilitate disposing of the remains.

Ajayi also claimed the remaining parts of the body were in his house.

However, in an interview with The Bureau Newspaper,, the deceased’s elder sister, Patience Adaidu, categorically denied rumours circulating online that her sister was romantically involved with Ajayi. She emphasised that their family had no prior knowledge of the suspect, let alone any awareness of an alleged romantic relationship between him and her sister.

The family is calling for a thorough investigation and transparency from the police to ensure justice for Salome.
