Senate President Godswill Akpabio has revealed that he spent three days in Kogi State, including a night at the Dangote Cement factory in Obajana, during the wedding of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Akpabio made this disclosure on Thursday during a Senate plenary while responding to allegations of sexual harassment leveled against him by Senator Natasha. He described her husband as a close friend and expressed surprise at the allegations against him.
“Natasha is the wife of my very good friend and brother—or so I thought. On the day of her marriage, I slept in Kogi, in her house. The next day, I ran to Obajana airport, but I missed my flight because the plane could not land since there was no light. I ended up sleeping at the Dangote Cement factory, so I spent three days,” Akpabio recounted.
His remarks came just before the Senate imposed a six-month suspension on Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, citing rules violations. The decision, widely seen as controversial, has sparked debates about whether the suspension was politically motivated, given the allegations Natasha had raised against Akpabio.
The suspension means the Kogi Central senator will be unable to participate in legislative activities or receive her salary for the next six months.
