The House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions has summoned the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammadu Dingyadi, over his failure to inaugurate the board of the Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).
The summon follows a petition submitted by a non-governmental organization, Obasi-Pherson Help Foundation, which raised concerns over the prolonged delay in the board’s inauguration.
According to the petition, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had appointed the Managing Director of the NSITF months ago, but the board is yet to be formally inaugurated, raising questions about the delay.
Reacting to the petition, the Committee Chairman, Mike Etaba, directed the Minister to appear in person to respond to the allegations, stressing that the government was being indicted and must provide clarity on the matter.
In addition, the committee has invited the Managing Director of the NSITF, Faleye Mayomi, over a separate petition accusing the agency of suspected violations related to its project clearance regulations.
The summons underscores growing concerns over administrative delays in key government agencies and the potential impact on social welfare programs under the NSITF.
