Rumy Alqahtani, a Saudi woman, enters the Miss Universe beauty pageant for the first time in history.

Rumy Alqahtani, a Saudi Arabian woman, will compete in the 2024 Miss Universe Beauty Pageant, marking a historic first.

This is a significant turning point in the changes championed by Mohammed Bin Salman, the royal prince of Saudi Arabia.

The 27-year-old Alqahtani, who was born in Riyadh, used Instagram to stress the significance of the nation’s historic debut at the beauty pageant in addition to expressing excitement at the opportunity.

With this declaration, Alqahtani becomes the second contender from the conservative Gulf area to compete in the Miss Universe competition, after Lujane Yacoub of Baharain, who attended the previous year.

Iran will compete in the Miss Universe competition for the first time on September 18, which will take place in Mexico.

Alqahtani is multilingual in Arabic, French, and English and has a bachelor’s degree in dentistry, according to The Independent. She was crowned the 2021 Miss Arab World Peace, Miss Saudi Arabia, Miss Middle East, and Miss Woman (Saudi Arabia).

In February, she competed in the most recent Miss and Mrs Global Asian pageant held in Malaysia, among other international pageants in which she has participated.

Particularly in Nigeria, the development has angered and openly criticised traditional Muslims.
